Examination results

Passing one’s school examination is indeed a scintillating experience (Tamil Nadu editions, “Marginal rise in Plus-Two pass rate”, May 18). Be that as it may, those who have failed to make the grade need not worry. The world is huge and when fate closes one door, faith always opens the other. There is the supplementary examination for a student to join the mainstream.

In the Standard 12 results this year, the students whose first language is Tamil and who have scored 1195, 1194 have been declared as State first and second and deserve all admiration. But two other girls who have also scored 1195 and 1194 do not get this rank as they had taken up French. Similarly, another girl with 1193 does not get a rank as she had Sanskrit as her language. I think it is unfair to have one’s first language as the criteria to decide the State ranking. It is high time this disparity is removed.
