Equality in temples

January 22, 2013 01:08 am | Updated 01:08 am IST

This refers to the article “ >Don’t like this temple? Choose another ” (Jan. 17). The great saint, Narayana Guru, was intelligent and practical when he advised the people of Kerala and elsewhere to improve their lot by education and employment. He told them to build temples where people were treated equally and could happily pursue their spiritual desires. Temples should be a holy place where all are welcome for worship and prayer.

Religion is subservient to nature. But in the name of beliefs, we exploit nature. The Sabarimala pilgrimage, in the months of December and January, draws huge crowds. This disturbs wildlife and invades the environment. Our culture is great, and our traditions are ideal but many things need to be reformed. We, humans, created beliefs and we might have made mistakes. It is time to eliminate the bad instead of supporting it.
