Entrance test

June 11, 2012 12:25 am | Updated 12:25 am IST

The decision by IIT-Kanpur to hold a separate entrance test from 2013 is a right decision (June 9). The IITs are the benchmark of academic excellence and they need to maintain standards. The IIT entrance exam is based on concepts and only a student who is thorough and clear in concepts can crack the exam.

Whatever the opinions expressed in the articles “IIT-Madras to go with Centre's JEE proposal & “Will IIT-Delhi go the Kanpur way?” (June 10), the fact is that there is a clear and distinct class of students which aspires for admission to the IITs. Let us maintain this exclusivity so that the IITs continue to remain a benchmark for excellence in engineering education.
