‘Drop’ Vodafone case

November 28, 2014 12:32 am | Updated 12:32 am IST

No one should have even an iota of doubt that when it comes to taking care of foreign investor sentiments in the name of promoting GDP, development and employment generation, the policies and programmes of the Congress and the BJP are the same (“ >Don’t pursue Vodafone tax demand, says A-G ,” Nov. 27). The conciliatory approach in high-stakes taxation matters involving MNCs is a new-found trend here, signalling the fast-changing dynamics of Indian politics and marking a shift from socialism and a mixed economy approach to one that is held hostage by crony capitalism. It cannot be forgotten that it was UPA-II that was determined to bring about a Presidential promulgation in the whooping Rs.11,217 crore with interest case that involved this telecom giant, but which did not materialise.
