Corporal punishment

July 23, 2014 12:49 am | Updated April 21, 2017 06:00 pm IST

It was painful to read about visually challenged schoolchildren of a residential school being subjected to inhuman treatment (July 22). What needs to be condemned is that the management initially tried to deny the incident and left the children to suffer. This incident and other cases of schoolchildren being subjected to extreme abuse — the Bangalore school incident being one — shows that there is a great need to look at child welfare holistically. A child faces immense pressures/challenges every day.
