Condemnable

The scuffle between lawyers and journalists in Bangalore was unfortunate (“Lawyers run riot in Bangalore,” March 3). The erring journalists and lawyers should be punished.

The stated cause of the conflict — ‘negative coverage' of the lawyers' strike in January — should not be ignored either. The media are obsessed with sensationalising and do not always report responsibly.

It is said one should not take the law into one's own hands and that disputes should be resolved through the instrument of law.

But in Bangalore, lawyers themselves took the law into their hands and indulged in unjustifiable violence and irrational behaviour. They have failed to uphold the supremacy of law.
