It is difficult to accept the reasons given by the Norwegian Child Protection Services for taking two young Indian children away from their parents and placing them in foster care (“Why Norway should back down,” Feb. 25).
Immigrants cannot be expected to follow the practices of their host country automatically. The CPS does not seem to have thought of the irreversible psychological damage its action will inflict on the children.

Norway may be working exceptionally well for the average Norwegian. But while dealing with people from different cultures, it must understand their practices. Enforcing a ‘law' without giving due consideration to diverse cultural practices is nothing but dictatorship. Developed countries should broaden their horizon and keep themselves updated on other cultures.
