Chennai to Syria

March 26, 2014 01:32 am | Updated May 19, 2016 11:24 am IST

This refers to The Hindu’s exclusive report, “ >Chennai youth fighting in Syria jihad ” (March 25). It was a rude shock to learn that at least two Chennai college students have travelled half way across the globe to fight in an alien land against alien enemies — all in the name of a religion which stands for peace and harmony. One hopes that the government is taking steps to ensure that large-scale radicalisation does not find its way onto college campuses. To think that such a thing can happen in Tamil Nadu, which is known to be peaceful and as an academic bastion is disconcerting. Does the social media have a role in this?
