The Karnataka government has done well to release Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu from the Krishna Raja Sagar reservoir following the Supreme Court directive to it to release 10,000 cusecs till Sunday. The apex court’s order is one of the best directions, which has taken all aspects of the issue into consideration.

Every ruling party in Karnataka has had to face a bad time on the Cauvery issue. Earlier, it was the Congress under S.M. Krishna and now it is the BJP’s Jagadish Shettar.

All political parties in the State exploit the issue to incite the ignorant masses and suppress the facts on distress sharing, and honouring the decisions of constitutionally established bodies like the River Water Tribunal and the Supreme Court. The water-sharing issue should be left to experts.
