Borewell rescue

April 16, 2014 01:09 am | Updated November 16, 2021 07:22 pm IST

This refers to the report, “ >Boy rescued from borewell ” (some editions, April 15), on the dramatic rescue of a three-year-old boy who fell into a borewell near Sankarankovil in Tamil Nadu. We have the heart, the will, the people and the technology. What more? The four-member team from Madurai which played a key role in rescuing the child, Harshan, must be complimented and encouraged. Their “borewell robot” proves that ideas thrive in the hinterland and not necessarily only in the cities. The technology should be developed and the government should help them in applying for a patent. I wish our political leaders follow this operation and put together a robust rescue mechanism. It is small things like these which become the jewels in the crown of development.
