Andy Murray’s achievement is awesome. He played his best game on Sunday to become the first British male singles champion to win the Wimbledon title after 77 long years. He made the victory memorable for him and the whole of Britain.

While Murray’s win would be highly satisfying to the British, it will be particularly significant for Ivan Lendl, his coach, who could never win this coveted grand slam. Beating world number 1 in three sets in the grand slam final was indeed a huge achievement.

Murray made history by winning the Wimbledon title after 77 years of Fred Perry’s victory. The final was a baseline game, of which both Murray and Djokovic are masters. Seeing the match, I was reminded of the Wimbledon final between an aggressive and fast Jimmy Connors and a cool Arthur Ashe in 1975. Ashe changed the tempo of the game which upset the rhythm of Connors, leading to his defeat.
