The former ISRO scientist, S. Nambi Narayanan, acquitted in espionage case, has been courageously battling to restore his honour and dignity (“A shattered man now sits cool and detached,” Sept. 8). The interim compensation of Rs 10 lakhs (which the Kerala High Court has directed the government to pay) is not even chicken feed compared to the stigma borne by him and his family. The Kerala government should pay the compensation of Rs one crore ordered by the NHRC to him instantly.

Even if the State pays the Rs one crore compensation to Mr. Narayanan, can he relive his life as ISRO scientist? Will it repair his shattered personal life? That he is still cool and detached points to his patience and perseverance. The Hindu deserves compliments for highlighting his case.
