It was shocking to see MPs of the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party come to blows in the Rajya Sabha over the Constitution Amendment Bill seeking to provide reservation to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes in government promotions. What a shame!

The MPs’ behaviour was embarrassing. If the attitude of an elected representative towards a fellow MP on the sensitive issue can be like this, one can imagine the coercive force of the orthodox elites on society to maintain the authority of Manu.

If the scuffle was bad enough, the fact that it broke out in the House of Elders is worse. But this is not the first time that our honourable members have displayed such unworthy behaviour. Rajniti Prasad tore the Lokpal Bill during the debate on the issue. Members indulging in such behaviour should be suspended.
