The abduction of Sukma Collector Alex Paul Menon by the so-called pro-poor Maoists is unethical. While their cause — fighting for the rights of the oppressed — may be right, the method chosen by them is not. Abduction of civil servants will work for them in the short term but, in the long term, such acts will affect the morale of the bureaucracy which will, in turn, hamper the growth prospects (which is what the naxals claim they are fighting for).

Maoists want to terrorise the government. The abduction of a District Collector who was performing his duty is condemnable. It was the Maoists who drew the government's attention to the need for inclusive development. And now they are the ones who are standing in the way of development.
