While one can understand the need for political players to create narratives targeting the religious (caste) sentiments of the masses and translate the same into vote share, one expects to read an analysis of neutral colour ( >“The primary pole in U.P. and Bihar,” May 13 ). Sadly, media coverage on the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate have had Mr. Modi as the epicentre of a script that makes him out to be a villain out to ruin India. After 10 years of misrule, it is fair to assume that citizens are more worried about greater problems than just the narrow spectrum of Hindutva or caste politics. The media should have had a piece on styles of governance, strategies adopted to battle key issues like corruption, inflation, power shortage, unemployment, health care and foreign policy looking at all key players, which would have been well received.
