An alliance for progress

The interview with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav was at best a damp squib (“Tie-up for the times: U.P. CM” and “‘If two young leaders come together, people’s hopes will rise’,” Feb.22). The coming together of Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi to fight the U.P. Assembly polls is only an attempt to share the spoils of office and remain politically relevant. Mr. Yadav has no moral right to call the BJP a communal party as his party is a pseudo-secular one, unabashedly resorting to vote-bank politics and minority appeasement. The fact that a chunk of MPs in his party are from his own family is a pointer. The country has had enough with dynastic politics. The irreversible decline of every political dynasty will do enormous good to our democracy.

If governed well, Uttar Pradesh can become one of India’s best States. Akhilesh Yadav has focussed on development especially in terms of infrastructure. If this young and energetic CM is given another chance, the State can look forward to further improvements in almost every field.
