This refers to the report, “IT hardware vendors slam ‘unethical pricing’ by e-commerce sites” (some editions, Feb. 27). It is quite clear that sellers, operating through brick-and-mortar stores, are trying hard to ensure that e-commerce is stymied. A major problem in physical stores is the poor inventory management practices of sellers, thus denying the customer a wide choice. FDI in multibrand retail was blocked in many States. Now, there seems to be a coordinated attempt to deny consumers the option of greater choice and lower prices. When e-commerce is flourishing in other countries, why should it be a problem in India? The government must respect the choice of the vast majority of consumers who welcome e-commerce sales that are competitive in every way, having faced debilitating inflation over the years.
