The editorial on Elizabeth Taylor (March 25) was a fitting tribute to the actor who dominated the silver screen in the second half of the 20th century. All facets of her personality — her love life, co-stars, craze for yachts and jewellery and even her political leanings — found a mention. Something about her enduring friendship with Michael Jackson may also be worth mentioning. Her marriage with Larry Fortensky took place on October 6, 1991 in Jackson's Neverland ranch. On her 65th birthday, Jackson sang the special song “Elizabeth, I Love You” in her honour. Taylor stood by Jackson during his trial on charges of sexual abuse. And she attended his private funeral on September 3, 2009.

Undoubtedly, Elizabeth Taylor was the most influential and glamorous actress of the tinsel world in the 20th century. Her greatness lay in the fact that despite being in the limelight till almost the end of her life, she felt that for her “life happened, just as it does for anyone else.” Her role in films like Cleopatra is certainly better remembered than her personal life.
