This refers to the report “Gujarat Chief Minister in fresh history battle” (Nov.11) and his reference to Syama Prasad Mookherjee as “a proud son of Gujarat.” Such gaffes as the ones by Mr. Modi are forgivable, but it shows a lack of historical knowledge on his part. But he did well by quickly correcting his error. Most leaders do not have the courage to do so.

I think The Hindu’s manner of reporting of the slip-up by Mr. Modi was grossly unfair. The mix-up was a slip of the tongue. You must also acknowledge that he apologised immediately. Whatever else that he said, that is, the handling of border issues with China, 1857 and forgetting tall leaders of the past like Maulana Azad and Acharya Kriplani, were left out of the report. Why?
