This is with reference to the report “Muslims safer in India than in Pakistan: Katju” published in the November 15, 2011 issue (Delhi edition) of your esteemed daily.

Whereas Mr. Justice Markandey Katju, or any other individual, has every right to present arguments and offer comments, it should not be done at the cost of unsubstantiated observations directed at other countries. Passing judgment on the condition of Muslims in Pakistan does not suit the stature of Mr. Justice Katju, who has been associated with the noble profession of judiciary for a long time. Moreover, his present position as Chairman of the Press Council of India also demands that his observations are objective and based on facts.

It is well known that Pakistan today has a vibrant media, an independent judiciary and a democratic dispensation. It is the homeland of 180 million people, with an overwhelming majority of Muslims, who are proud citizens of a country which was achieved through relentless efforts and sacrifices of their ancestors.

M. Khalid Sarwar,

Minister (Press),

Pakistan High Commission,
