A real tribute

It was indeed a pleasure to read the article, “For the love of God”, on Mother Teresa (Aug. 26). Bureaucrats and planners are more concerned with quantifying and defining poverty so that they can review their performance over a period of time. But real development can take place only when they understand poverty in the context of societal change. Poverty will certainly decline when plans are implemented effectively. But it also demands a coordinated and continued personal effort to lend a helping hand to the poor and the needy.
