The passing of actor Farooq Sheikh leaves a void in the film industry (“ >An everyman who grappled with real issues ,” Dec. 29). He was a natural actor and his nuanced performances in “Chashme Baddoor” and “Noorie” will remain etched in the memory of cinema-lovers. His immense contribution to theatre and films will be remembered. His TV stint, in “Jeena Isi Kaa Naam Hai,” sums up his exemplary life.

Barkha Tamrakar,

Raipur

He was a complete gentleman — a lesser known ‘A’-class actor but one who held his own in fiercely competitive Bollywood. He is known to have helped many a person in the film world and outside it. He was frank in his opinions on minority issues too. His TV show “Jeena Isi Kaa Naam Hai” was outstanding. His memorable roles were in “Umrao Jaan,” “Bazaar” and “Shatranj Ke Khiladi,” with the best being “Chashme Baddoor.” His films with actor Deepti Naval were a hit.
