Gnani was a down-to-earth journalist, writer and dramatist who did not mince words in conveying his views — be it in print, television, or on stage. He had friends in all the political parties, yet he expressed his opinion frankly. Above all, he was a very simple person with no ego. Despite undergoing dialysis, he was cheerful and participated in all literary meetings. In earlier book fairs, he used to conduct opinion polls on issues of social and political importance and would announce the results with justifiable pride. He was humble and gentle.
