The Hindu has always been in the forefront of struggles for equality and justice. But the opinions of readers published on February 22 on the two-day national strike called by 11 trade unions were severely critical of the strike which was, in fact, one of the greatest uprisings by Indians. There was a letter which even advocated a ban on such strikes. Even the INTUC, affiliated to the Congress, was forced to participate in the strike due to the actual situation faced by the working class, with the policies of the UPA government making life unbearable.
