A case of neglect

I share the agony expressed in the article, “Making of a monumental crisis” (July 7), on the reckless breach of the 100-m no-construction zone. The Ministry of Culture seems to be discarding its role in preserving monuments and is playing second fiddle to the Ministry of Transport in allowing the construction of roads through the prohibited boundary areas.

Even otherwise, we have 3,650 such sites, most of which are in a bad shape. Most of us also have a ‘who cares’ attitude when we visit heritage sites and often contribute to the filth and ugly conditions at such places. We lose goodwill too as foreign visitors are put off by the unsanitary conditions at such sites.
