When Steve Jobs was asked in 1985 why people should make a heavy investment on a new computer built by Apple, he replied that if one had asked Alexander Graham Bell about the possible uses of a telephone, he would not have been able to say. Moreover, he envisioned a time when computers like the one he had made would be linked to a nationwide communications network. That uncanny understanding of the future course of technology, the intuition, vision, and courage necessary to build it marked the extraordinary life of Steve Jobs. When he died on Wednesday at the age of 56, he left the venture he co-founded in his parents' garage the most valuable technology company in the world. A restless diviner of the digital future, Jobs made things for people before they knew they needed it. The first Macintosh computer brought technologies such as the graphical user interface and the mouse to the mainstream, scoring a giant leap over text-based displays. The iPod, the iPhone, and the iPad were products of his belief that humans, as instinctive users of tools, would love them. These creations successfully disrupted the universe of gadgets and entertainment, creating new benchmarks for products.
A quarter century ago, at a time when the computer business was focussed on big corporations and mainframes, Jobs pursued a vision to take the productivity of the computer to the small businessperson and the home user. He used innovation and reliability as growth engines. He was the digital woodworker who never compromised on design, materials, or craftsmanship, in hardware and software. Early in his career, Jobs argued that creativity was an asset of the young. As people grew older, they got stuck in the patterns etched in their mind by their thoughts. Companies with many layers of middle management filtered out the passion for products. Jobs was the great exception — mercurial, driven, and eager to connect the dots of the future till the end. Unceremoniously thrown out of the company he co-founded, he returned to it enormously enriched with creative ideas. Despite suffering from a rare form of pancreatic cancer diagnosed soon after he unveiled the iTunes music store, he persevered with the development of new products such as the iPhone. In his famous commencement address at Stanford University in 2005, he reflected on the inevitability of mortality: “Your time is limited, so don't waste it living somebody else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking ... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.” This summed up the life and work of a college dropout who, by connecting the dots and having the courage to follow his heart and intuition, changed the world.

iNSPIRATION lasts forever, so do Mr. Jobs!
He was a clear illustration of a person who made things simple and somehow saved them from getting SIMPLER.
I join you in mourning the passing away a genius. Jobs passion to make 'software' reach hands and hearts of people is remarkable. As I was following the news, there is a piece of info that struck me so powerfully that I am unable to come to terms with it: he was hardly involved in philanthrophy and as the CEO decided that Apple would not invlove in any philanthropical activities. Moreover, he did not pursue to make Apple environmental friendly. Sure, he did not take salery, but how was it possible that he remained unmoved by the struggles of the poor (certinaly Buddhism powerfully preches Compasson to all living beings) and reach out to them?? His passion (with an intent to make Apple profitable) served 'only' to make a 'great' computer accessible to the affluent.. I wish that his life was also characterized by a littl more of compassion and commitment to humanitarian causes. As people, especially the youth, whom he gave so much and to whom he may mean much, see beynd what he saw!
Steve Jobs shaped the personal computer, the iPod digital music
player, the iTunes store that sold one-off music singles instead of
entire albums (the rough analogy would be the Chennai street corner
kiosk that sells shampoo sachets or individual cigarettes), the iPhone
that elevated the mobile phone to the smart phone category (wireless
phone, network), the apps collection in the iTunes catalog (returned
cool to software!), and finally the iPad tablet computer. Steve
believed in hardware and software and Apple is the most successful
integrated company there is today. I feel lucky to have been alive
during Steve Jobs' time. Generations to come will refer to my
generation as the Jobs era or century, alongside Google. Steve, may
you rest in peace. Thank you!
"An apple a day keeps doctor away" like this famous saying Steve prevented lot of malfunctioning technology and made it easy to operate for a non technologically savy consumer and brought a revolution which others trying to follow. He is Immortal will live in the hearts and his innovations forever
Steve Jobs : R(are)'IP'.
Your editorial was relevant in the context many of your readers may not know Steve Jobs was the green- room- man behind Apple. We have heard of persons giving predictions of future & persons taking precautions of future but there are very few persons who discover future like Steve! He has proved how technical know- how can be made useful to the benefit of mankind. In a short sentence we can equate him to Hendry Ford who revolutionized the automobile industry & also proved the classic example that "innovation comes from inhibitions" And no doubt he was rated as the best CEO of the century and his life & vision will be a source of inspiration to the younger generation! Above all even a terminal disease did not deter him from his pursuit for new technological innovations unabated ! This is indeed remarkable to lead by example the literal meaning for "creativity'" .
Steve had done something for which we are now viewing this computer screen. He made technology so simple that it was able to reach the common man. Truly inspiring vision.
Steve Jobs is indeed a person who has left a reach legacy..and is truely an inspiring person also one can call him an ideal...
His technology changed our lives. Wherever Steve Jobs is now, he can proudly look back and say "I have travelled miles and I have kept my promises". RIP Genius.
He reflected on the inevitability of mortality: "Your time is limited, so don't waste it living somebody Else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking ... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition." This should be our motto for learning and living. We still live in dogmas, and encourage the others to follow. This is an eye opening dictum of great visionary. we have lost such visionary. God bless thy soul.
It is surprising that Steve made the means by which all of us paying tributes him. Although he upgraded already existing techniques, but his way to work absolutely different, thoughts are unique.that's why he is an inspiration for us.we pray for iconic man editorial expressing his way of action ,which is beneficial for us for giving a new idea of working.
A prudent and magnificent leader Steve Jobs, who enthralled digital world by his superior gadgets and in making them easily accessible to all of us,in every way! An old adage, can be reconstructed as- "an apple(igadgets) a while, keeps update ur life! RIP Mr.Jobs..god bless u!
A big Fullstop in a very inspiring story... A Historical Note... RIP Mr.Steve Jobs
Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world. Several years later Steve did it with the spirit to serve the mankind with products/computers people loved to use. He made a dent in the universe as he promised. How could anyone bring a company from the verge of bankruptcy to the almost number one Technology company on earth unless he is really really passionate about what he did?
We have heard several obituary references and jargons like, he will always be with us and his memory will remain etched in our hearts and minds for ever and so on. Steve is the epitome of all these formal words. For Generations to come, this great inventor will be remembered. Talk to the girls in your household. For them, possessing an ipod is more valuable than wearing a gold. they will definitely sacrifice all their personal belongings to possess all the modern gadgets from Apple Inc. In the famous movie, Ten commandments, the Pharoh would turn to Ramyses, his son, in a scene and say that a man is to be judged by his deeds and not by his birth, in an obvious reference to Moses, his adopted son.How true it is in his case. similar upbringing but he erased all his childhood blemishes by giving the greatest gift to mankind. Steve, you are like a candle in the wind, flickering but will never be blown out. Wealth creation for shareholder started with Apple Inc and others followed.
The world greatly benefited from his iconic products and the culture he brought with them.Entire world paying tributes signifies the impact he had on all.His messages are simple with practical suggestions.excellent editorial we all pray for his soul.
Ohhhhh GOd....Apple lost its Vitamin
In an uncanny authority on material art epitomized by Love and need, Steve Jobs Visualized the desire of people and shaping it in almost like a dream come true version of products what others could only see to believe it, immortalized the world of Modern communication and entertainment of 21st century. Let's hope his untimely death would ignite the moral behind Steve Job's thinking in every one of us.......
There are a lot more of things, form marketing to philosophy, that can be learnt from the life of Steve jobs than that can be gotten by reading hundreds of books. We miss you Steve!!
A most touching and inspiring editorial. Thank you.
Steve like other stars in the world had a great following. But his untimely 'exit' acts like a message that there are still many things out of human control. Man is still dust. He is far from God though he tries to be one.
A great man,an absolute genius. Knew exactly what he wanted and got it too.
With the flux of time, there might be a possibility that the Apple products innovated with the brain chips of Steve Jobs could fade with the introduction of more innovative ones, though only as an improvement on what Jobs had already done but his memory would definitely remain with us as fresh as the golden apple itself until apples are produced in the orchards.Needless to stress, every bite on the sweet apple would sure remind us of Steve Jobs!
thankyou Mr Jobs for everything. UR still living in billions of peoples lives through yr innovation and creativity ..goodbye!!!
The 'sweetest' apple of the world is no more. The half-bitten 'apple' has bitten millions across the world and has enabled the masses to taste the 'sweetest'of technologies and products. The 'Apple'that Jobs founded will remain fresh forever.
Steve Jobs introduced all the good features for personal computing that set standards for industry. He was successful in borrowing ideas from other devices that failed to make any impact, by giving it a new context and purpose. Computers and laptops became fashion statements, even when packed with enough computing power and tools do any job under the sun. He took the ideas onto the world of hand-held devices, which is the the newer dimension of the computing world. However, prices were kept only for the convenience of a premium segment, that prevented most people in having a direct contact with any of his great creations. Yet through imitations and adaptations by other devices, his ideas has touched the lives of billions. I don't own or use an Apple device, or think ever I will have the luxury to do that, but I am grateful for Steve Jobs for this contributions in making computers usable by anyone wants to do that.
why u r giving so much importance to Steve, please don't follow foreign media. 99% Indian people don't know who is he, what he has done to mankind? he is a businessman, we agree that he is a icon in digital industry but his innovations made for rich that to entertainment..all media, national and local throughout the day sang about him only...no other issues are there?
One day men will conquer Cancer. That day we all (mankind) will have a chance to remember this great visionary. Good Bye,
Steve Jobs was true visionary and creative genius who will be remembered for his charismatic gadgets and inspirational battle again cancer.
A tribute from a humble Indian: The essence of the character of Steven Paul Jobs is evident in his speech at Stanford Uni.,(2005) esp. when he talks about how life at any particular point of time has to come to terms with death. He says,'...Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most imp. tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life...everything - all expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly imp. Remembering that you're going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked...' Since time is limited he urges people esp. the youngsters not to live somebody's life and waste their creativity. The profound advice from this philosopher-technocrat for the young generation is to 'follow your heart'. Only then design, the soul of creativity, could be manifested in life processes.
A restless diviner of the digital future, Jobs made things for people before they knew they needed it. - This line says it all. RIP Mr.Jobs.
Words fail to convey the intensity of sadness. The world has lost a visionary of rare endowment and his zest for change is endless. Job's work is historical and he has laid the path for mankind's progress
Truly Steve Jobs is an iconic figure of 21st century. Those whom GOD loves die young. The Apple may not be as sweet as it was to be in future.
we will miss Steve...
Steive was an immortal man, dwelling in the hearts of all of us. We can never forget such incarnations of divinity.
With the flux of time, there might be a possibility that the Apple products innovated with the brain chips of Steve Jobs could fade with the introduction of more innovative ones, though only as an improvement on what Jobs had already done but his memory would definitely remain with us as fresh as the golden apple itself till that time apples are produced in the orchards and we would be reminded of him every time we have a bite on the real apple!
For a long time, we in India, only heard or read about Apple thanks to our bureaucrats who knew nothing about things technical). Luckily today Apple is available in India and it has made a BIG difference. When I bought my Mac computer after years of struggle with Windows based computers, I realized what a genius and inventor was Steve Jobs. Everything about computers have got simplified and have become extremely reliable. The iPod, iPhone and iPad are products which bring out his creative genius and gives happiness to it's users. We have lost a great person - a person whom you could not but love. The greatest tribute this country can pay to him is to make our computer based services also compatible to Apple products.I cannot file my IT return with an Apple computer. Net banking, purchasing Online often becomes difficult or impossible with an Apple computer. It seems that many including our bureaucrats have not heard of Apple computers. This has to end.
iThank..'i' products generating 'j'obs..RIP
Behind each great company, there is a great mission statement. Apple's mission is to bring the best personal computing experience to consumers through its innovative hardware, software and Internet offerings. This mission statement has been driving Apple for years, fueling the company's vision of what the future could look like, and then turning that vision into reality. Steven Paul Jobs was the most successful CEO in the world for the last 25 years realizing such a mission. He uniquely combined an artist's touch and an engineer's vision to build an extraordinary company....Apple Inc, one of the greatest World leaders in history of computing. What he told the graduating students may be Steve Jobs's best legacy. Here is one part we all should remember,"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."
What a great man he was!
Simple can be harder than complex: "You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it's worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains." - Steve Jobs The quote explains his thought process. He is a genius!
A very fitting editorial to a genius of the century. A genius does not require formal high tier education as a necessary requirement. He had the fundamentals to understand concepts and the building blocks; had the intuition to extrapolate his basic knowledge to higher architecture step by step, block by block; had the patience and perseverance to face odds; to visualize the potentials of a fast growing communication technology to be tailor made to reach the homes of individuals and the nationwide networking is a corollary of such a vision. Extending the 'Mac' innovations to entertainment field is another outstanding achievement. Surely, he towers far above any of his contemporaries by his uncanny innovations and vision. He is not dead; he lives meritoriously and will live so for ever, as long as World wide communication networking is in existence. May his soul rest in peace.
So unique, a favorite, an idol of hundreds of millions around the world. He was a Don Quixote who succeeded, and like Fibonacci 800 years ago changed the paradigm of communication and life. His words in your Editorial can be guiding star for our young people and country. Thank you
Steven p jobs, the visionary co - founder of Apple, who transformed the digital age will find a permanent place in history for his contributions to society. In 2004 he was diagnosed of pancreatic cancer and after a complicated operation, he was mentally embracing death. In his emotional speech to the students of the Stanford university, he advised them to 'STAY HUNGRY.STAY FOOLISH'. That was a great message. He wanted them to make full use of time at their disposal and be hungry towards meaningful work for the betterment of society, and not to show off, in a way giving the impression that you are a fool. He worked and worked without rest, to make a DIFFERENCE IN THE LIFE OF MILLIONS IN THIS LAND. Salutations to him .
Your editorial reflects the feelings of millions across the globe. When Microsoft peddled its MS-DOS operating systems, millions were afraid to go near a computer, thanks to its monstrous unfriendliness. When Apple came up with its user friendly computing, even housewives took to it and computing truly became equally useful to all generations, from the adolescent to the grand-parents. It can be safely that it was Apple's friendly approach and its acceptance that goaded Microsoft to develop the Windows concept, from the hideous MS-DOS. Even Bill Gates started to compare his every version of Windows as being as friendly as the Mac!! A remarkable person-his passing away is a loss not just to his immediate family but to the whole world. Whom the Gods love, take them away young. Memories of his pioneering visions will live for ever. I think he changed the lives of millions in a very unique and profound way, just as Einstein and Norman Borlaug did.
