Corrections and Clarifications — November 30, 2016

>>Many readers pointed out that the reference in the opening sentence of “Diageo money was split among my children: Mallya” (Nov. 26, 2016) to the “$39,999,994 million” paid to Vijay Mallya by the British liquor major Diageo Plc was incorrect and the figure should have been either $39,999,994 or $39.99 million. It is clarified that the amount — in quotes — is as shown in the affidavit filed by Vijay Mallya in the Supreme Court. The onus to correct the affidavit is on the petitioner, by his own volition or if pointed out by the Supreme Court.

>>The article, “In search of a new red corridor” (Ground Zero, Nov. 26, 2016) noted that Maoist leader Kuppu Devaraj was killed in an encounter on Thursday. It also mentioned Kuppuswami as a Tamil-speaking Maoist leader. Both Kuppuswami and Kuppu Devaraj, according to police sources, refer to the same person. Kuppuswami is the name mentioned in police records in Tamil Nadu, while Kuppu Devaraj is the name provided in Kerala.
