Two naxalites shot dead in Bastar

Two naxalites, including a woman, were gunned down by the police in two separate encounters in the Bijapur and Kanker districts of Bastar region on Sunday.

Arms and ammunition were recovered from the sites, senior police officials told PTI.

Superintendent of Police, Bijapur district, Avinash Mohanty, said Maoists opened fire on an anti-naxal squad, patrolling the Basguda police station limits early in the morning.

The police killed one naxal in retaliatory fire and recovered his body.

The other encounter took place at Anjrel in Kanker district, SP Ajay Yadav said.

An anti-naxal police patrol came under fire early in the morning in the jungles of Anjrel. The police returned fire killing the woman, he said.

Four CISF jawans were killed and two injured when their jeep was blown up in a landmine blast triggered by naxals in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district. The blast occurred when they were on patrol in Bicheli area.
