Polling concludes at Jayanagar Assembly constituency
Over two lakh voters in Jayanagar constituency finally cast their votes on Monday. While the rest of the State went to polls on May 12, elections to Jayanagar constituency was countermanded after the death of incumbent MLA and BJP candidate B.N. Vijay Kumar.
Polling went smoothly with a turnout of 51 percent as on 5 pm. Polling officials hoped that there would be an increase in the voter turnout towards the end of the day, as they expected the office going crowd to come to the polling booths post 5 pm.
In one polling booth in 4T block, there was a 65 percent voter turnout, at 3:30 pm. Polling officials said they were expecting it to go up to 80 percent before they closed for the day.
Suicide bombing outside Afghan Ministry
A suicide bomber killed 13 people and wounded more 25 during rush hour on Monday at the entrance to Afghanistan’s Rural Rehabilitation and Development Ministry in Kabul as workers were leaving for home, government spokesmen said.
The Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility, its AMAQ news agency said, without providing any evidence. The attack comes as security has deteriorated in the city during recent months ahead of elections scheduled for October.
Trailer of Sairat remake Dhadak launched
The trailer for the Jhanvi Kapoor-Ishaan Khatter starrer Dhadak , the remake of the multiple award-winning Marathi film Sairat was launched on Monday.
The trailer launch of “Dhadak” was attended by the film’s producer Karan Johar, director Shashank Khaitan and lead actor Ishaan Khatter, who too is making his Bollywood debut with the project.
Janhvi said the first day shoot of the film was a lot of fun.
“We were not that nervous because Shashank had already created a very comfortable family environment. We had done a lot of reading and rehearsals before the shot, so things were easy and fun,” she said.
“Dhadak” is releasing on July 20.
Lalu Prasad Yadav turns 71
Former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad turned 71 on Monday. Out on bail over health issues after being convicted in three fodder scam cases, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief celebrated the day with much fanfare. There was festivity all around the sprawling bungalow here at 10, Circular Road, where he resides along with his family.

Rains affect traffic in Hassan
The traffic movement on Somwarpet-Beluru road in Hassan has been hit following heavy rains in the region. A tree fell down near Bage in Sakaleshpur taluk hampering vehicular movement.
