The cyclonic storm ‘Roanu’ west-central Bay of Bengal lay centred about 40 km south-southeast of Kalingapatnam, about 146 km off Visakhapatnam coast on Friday afternoon.
The storm moving at a speed of 25 km per hour is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by Friday night and cross south Bangladesh coast on Friday evening or early morning of Saturday. >Read more.

According to Skymet Weather, on May 20, heavy to very heavy rains are expected to lash parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, with few places may recording extremely heavy showers as well. Squally winds of 80 kmph - 90 kmph gusting up to 110 kmph can be seen blowing over the region.
Odisha too was put on high alert following the developments. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik directed cancellation of leaves of all government employees for Friday and Saturday and opening of a 24-hour control room to monitor the situation. >Read more..

May 19, 2016: Cyclone Roanu off A.P. coast
On May 19 morning cyclone Roanu formed in Bay of Bengal. By afternoon it gained more strength and has further moved in north-northeast direction along and off the Andhra Pradesh coast. The cyclonic storm remained practically stationary and lay centred about 60 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam.
Late in the evening on May 19, it moved north eastwards and is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm during night, IMD has said. >Read more

After battling a long spell of dry and humid weather, Chennai witnessed copious rains early this week. What started as a intensified depression that was lying over south-west Bay of Bengal and east of Chennai, and 170 km south-east of Nellore moved further in the north-eastward direction and became a cyclone. >Read more
