Time for dialogue: BJP

October 05, 2010 12:15 am | Updated November 03, 2016 08:08 am IST - Pune:

The time has come for a dialogue between the parties to the Ayodhya dispute, BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said here on Monday.

Addressing journalists, he said the BJP read the nation's mood as wanting a peaceful and early solution to the Babri Masjid issue.

“The Centre should take the initiative and start a dialogue to arrive at negotiated sentiments with both parties.”

Mr. Javadekar earlier condemned Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram's remark that the Allahabad High Court verdict did not justify the demolition of the masjid. He had said Mr. Chidambaram should let the court decide on the matter.

Now Mr. Javadekar said that in 2004 senior BJP leader L.K. Advani had started a process, with the idea of having all-party consultations on the issue. But this was stopped when the United Progressive Alliance came to power.

“We have another chance now and we should take it up. This can lead to solving matters in a calm manner.”
