The Onam sales of the State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco) have crossed Rs. 200 crore.
An official release said the turnover at 500 vegetable outlets set up for the season alone was Rs. 75 lakh in the last two days.
As many as 1,400 sales outlets including 145 Onam markets and 1,200 mini fairs were being run by the Corporation from August 28. Besides, 56 taluk-level procurement centres were functioning without holidays. Regional monitoring centres were working in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Palakkad and Kozhikode in addition to the control room at the Supplyco headquarters in Kochi. All items needed for the coming days had been stocked at the respective outlets.
The release added that the procurement for the Ramadan fairs in September was nearing completion. Special vigilance squads were working in every district to ensure supply of quality items in correct quantities during the festival.
It said Supplyco had been selling provisions at the same price for the past three years. The prices of vegetables were lower than the market price by 10 per cent.
