Two National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants were killed and a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was recovered in Assam on Sunday following tight security measures in the run-up to Republic Day celebrations.
Police said one NDFB militant, belonging to the anti-talks faction of the Ranjan Daimary faction, was killed in an operation by the police and Army at Sessapani under Kokrajhar police station.
The security forces recovered a U.S.-made pistol, two magazines and nine rounds of ammunition from the slain militant, sources said.
In another incident, another NDFB militant, also of the anti-talks faction, was killed in an encounter at Majbat in Udalguri district.
A 9 mm pistol with five rounds of live ammunition was recovered from the slain militant.
Security forces also recovered a powerful IED, weighing more than three kg, from Barama in Baksa district.
Security measures have been stepped up following intelligence reports that the ULFA and NDFB were planning to carry out subversive activities.
