Two drown in Pavana dam

Pune: Two youths, in their late 20s, drowned in the Pavana dam near Lonavla on Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Mohit Jadhav, a resident of Jalgaon district, and Vedprakash Rana of Nagpur city.

A group of nine youngsters — six boys and three girls — entered the waters to click photos and swim. Jadhav and his friend Ajinkya Shinde failed to ascertain the depth. “Hearing their shouts, Rana and Shubham Bammi, plunged into the waters. Villagers rushed to save the four. However, only two could be saved,” said inspector R. J. Ingawle of Lonavla police station.
