Panaji: Union Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu on Monday said that trains are not just a medium of transport but the heart and soul of India.

Mr. Prabhu was speaking at a function to pay tributes to Keshavsut, pioneer of modern Marathi poetry for his contribution to Marathi litrature. The Dadar-Sawantwadi Rajya Rani Express was renamed as “Tutari Express” in honour of the poet’s revolutionary poem of the same name. Selected poems of Keshavsut were recited by prominent personalities of Marathi literature at the function.

In “Tutari”, he gives a call to fight for independence during the British rule. The poem is known to be an inspirational piece of writing and can be read as a clarion call to act against all forms of injustice.

Krishnaji Keshav Damle (October 7,1866 – November 7,1905) was a Marathi poet and wrote under the pen name Keshavsut. He has been honoured as the creator of ‘Modern Marathi poetry’.
