TUDA chief launches 169 programmes in memory of YSR

October 10, 2009 09:10 pm | Updated 09:21 pm IST - TIRUPATI:

In a significant development, the Chairman of the Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA), a close follower of the late Chief Minister Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, has found a novel way to perpetuate the memory of late Dr. Reddy. He has unveiled on Saturday a massive programme which when implemented by the TUDA would leave a lasting memory of late Dr. Reddy in all the 169 villages coming under its purview.

As per the blue-print he has prepared for the TUDA to go about this mammoth task, as many as seven different works with a huge financial outlay would be taken up in the name of Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy in the 169 TUDA villages.

In an apparent bid to defend his action, the TUDA chief said he was doing so only to show his ‘indebtedness’ to the late CM who he said had participated in no fewer than 16 programmes organised by the TUDA during his stint as the CM. The late CM did so when neither a Collector nor any minister never ever visited the TUDA office, leave alone taking part in programmes, he said.

Another ‘kind gesture’ of the late CM which the TUDA chief cited in this connection was the allotment of 679 acres of government land worth about Rs.230 crore to TUDA to help it become financial self-sustaining.

Following are the seven ‘YSR centric’ programmes which the TUDA chief has envisaged for the TUDA villages:

To construct a ‘YSR Mahila Bhavan’ each in all the 169 villages with an overall financial outlay of Rs.ten crs as mark of respect to late CM’s commitment for women empowerment and welfare.

To take up 2 works each worth Rs. 10 lakhs in all villages in memory the late CM’s pro-farmer gesture and name the roads as ‘YSR Roads’ spending in all Rs.15 crore.

To set up ‘YSR Family Parks’ at Srikalahasti, Puttur, Renigunta and Chandragiri.

To set up a Mysore-type ‘ YSR Botanical Garden ’ in the Avilala tank near Tirupati.

To set up a boat club, food court and butterfly garden besides developing the pavements in the Thummalagunta village and name them after YSR.

To distribute in the name of YSR, 10 lakh saplings and take up tree plantation in all TUDA villages.

To set up TUDA branch offices in YSR’s name at Puttur and Srikalahasti municipal offices.
