Pune: Three leopards were found dead in Bhor Taluk of Pune district on Monday. According to the police, the animals, whose carcasses were found in Kapurhol village, may have died of poisoning.

One of the bodies was identified as that of a female leopard. The bodies of several crows were also discovered near the spot.

“Investigations are on to find out whether the leopards were killed as a result of poisoning by some villagers as a measure or for some other reason,” said a police officer.

Sources said some villagers had approached the forest department, complaining about the leopard menace. However, no steps were taken at the time.

Just a week ago, three leopard cubs were found charred to death in a sugarcane field in a village of Junnar tehsil. It was suspected that sugarcane caught fire after an overhead electricity cable fell on crops due to a short circuit.
