Thevar jayanthi: Two more succumb to injuries

Two more persons injured in violent incident a few days back during Thevar guru puja celebrations have died, taking the toll in various incidents that day to eight.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said Desinguraj and Ranjith Kumar sustained injuries when some anti-social elements hurled petrol filled bottles at their van when they were returning after paying homage to freedom fighter and Thevar community icon Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar in Ramanathapuram district on October 30.

They had succumbed to their injuries; she said in a statement here and condoled their death.

Ms. Jayalalithaa announced a relief of Rs five lakh each to the families of the victims from Chief Minister’s General Relief Fund.

Earlier, three persons had been killed in various incidents on October 30. Three more persons had succumbed to burn injuries later. The Chief Minister had informed the state Assembly that adequate security measures had been put in place and peace restored in the district.
