A 24-year-old man raped a minor girl at Poovadur in Ulundurpet block near here on January 6.

When the girl’s parents lodged a complaint with an all-women police station here, the accused committed suicide on Tuesday, fearing criminal action.

Police sources said that the girl, daughter of a farm labourer, was harvesting a crop when the youth sexually assaulted her.

The girl fell unconscious and fellow workers immediately rushed her to a hospital.

When Inspector Mohanasundari began enquiry, the youth went to his sister’s place at Polur in Tiruvannamalai district.

Fearing arrest, he consumed poison and ended his life.

Four held for rape

Meanwhile in Sivakasi, four persons, including a 52-year-old man, were arrested for the rape of a 41-year-old woman here on Tuesday.

The police said that the victim, who was living with a painter after separation from her husband, was allegedly raped by S. Tirunavukarasu (26) and L. Solaimalai (21), who were known to the painter.

According to the complaint, the two accused, both loadmen, along with K. Yesuraja (52), had gone to her house when the painter was away on Saturday night.

They took her to a secluded place and raped her.

G. Srinivasan, an employee of an eatery, was with them.

Based on a complaint lodged on Monday, the police arrested all the four and remanded them in judicial custody, the Inspector of Police (Sivakasi East), K. Sundarapandian, said.
