The reports of the CB CID and a Judicial Magistrate in the case relating to the death of five persons in alleged police encounter at Velachery here were submitted to the Madras High Court on Friday.

The reports were presented in sealed covers before a Division Bench, comprising Justices Elipe Dharma Rao and Aruna Jagadeesan, when a public interest litigation petition, seeking a direction to the State Government to register a case under Section 302 (punishment for murder) IPC against the police personnel involved in the “killing” of the five persons, came up for further hearing.

The petition has been filed by P. Pugalenthi, Director, Prisoner Rights Forum, who stated that the police were investigating bank robberies.

Instead of investigating a crime of robbery in a manner known to law, the police “entered a thickly-populated residential locality and killed five youngsters, who were staying in a single bedroom house, which was locked from within.” The matter will come up again on November 26.
