Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president and Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Wednesday said that his party could form either single party government or a coalition government.
After exercising his franchise along with his wife Dayalu Ammal at a school close to his Gopalapuram residence, Mr. Karunanidhi told reporters that the poll prospects of his party were as bright as the rising sun, the symbol of his party. The victory for his party would be such that it would be able to form the government on its own.
To a question, he termed the Election Commission's actions severe. He would not say that the Commission acted in a partial manner. There would be nothing wrong if those, who were affected in a few places because of the Commission's actions, said so.
To a question on All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalailthaa's charge that the DMK was resorting to violence, Mr. Karunanidhi said that one could know who was encouraging violence, given the fact that a DMK local functionary at Vikaravandi was killed.
In a statement, the DMK leader accused Ms. Jayalalithaa of levelling baseless charges on the issue of violence. Asked for his reaction to the Commission's approach, Deputy Chief Minister and DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin said that events in the last two days had demonstrated that the Commission had not taken impartial steps, despite the Chief Minister's appeal.
Keywords: Tamil Nadu Assembly elections

Hat's off EC for their commitments in TN state assembly elections.I would like to appreciate Mr. Praveen kumar CEO for his challenging and responsible duty. Moreover, everyone are very keen in change of the government and definitely Ms. Jayalalithaa will form the next govt with majority.
The voters en mass has done it again. Will the higher turnout give another term to DMK or unseat DMK. It is a game now. Despite the summer heat and the Election Commission's stringent measures over tackling the cash payments for votes, voters have come out in large numbers and voted. It is really a great thing. All those who voted need to be congratulated themselves for this achievement. So also the Election Commission and the government of the day need to be complimented. Alas! All the talk of the opposition parties accusing of DMK planned violence in Sonia's meeting and again on the polling day turn out to be mere political vendetta. Will the higher turnout tilt the scale in favour of one alliance or other? It is very difficult to answer. In the past, there was an established myth that higher turnout will mean a defeat to the ruling party. Most of than not it was proved wrong. Few times it was proved right. However, in Tamil Nadu's case, this time, and one cannot now say anything very confidently. High voter turnout does not mean there is an anti-incumbency wave. Nor one could say it is in favor of ruling party. It simply means that many have decided to come out and voted due to various 'considerations'. Rewards of some kinds must have motivated few to come out and vote. No wonder, there is roughly about 10 to 15% extra polling. Otherwise the average should be around 65%.Who made this possible, on what consideration and what percentage voted on that basis etc will be known only on 13th MAY noon. Meantime, let us all wait for the “D” day to reveal its mystery. Whatever the outcome, the defeated one will accuse the Election Commission of some fraud during the waiting period for the failure his/her party/ alliance in the election.
One wonders about the politics and the politicians of TN. The leaders of two major parties claiming to win the election and to form the government, seem to have high hopes. But the TN people have a different plan and have ensured no majority for these parties with so many corrupt politicians and looters and opportunistic parties in their team .After the results come out, all these major and minor parties will haggle, fight and switch allegiance in order to make an illicit fortune in a short time as possible. Corrupt Money will flow like a flood to grab the elected MLAs from other parties to form the government. TN people, please wait and see .
Record Voter Turnout: Why it does not automatically means advantage Jayalaithaa?Historically, there is a weak correlation between turnout and winning an election in Tamil Nadu. There is better correlation between electoral arithmetic and chemistry.Read more:http://exitopinionpollsindia.blogspot.com/2011/04/record-voter-turnout-why-it-does-not.html
