Actor Vijay on Sunday said he had no plans to enter politics, and at present he was concentrating on films, especially his latest venture, ‘Vettaikaran.’
He, however, hinted he was not averse to the idea of taking the plunge into politics in the future.
“I might,” he said, when asked whether he would join politics in the future and convert Makkal Iyakkam, a movement launched by him, into a political outfit.
Talking to reporters in the wake of media reports that he would join the Congress, the actor said the meeting with Mr. Gandhi was arranged by a well-wisher.
“It was a wonderful meeting. There is a lot of speculation in the media and I would have been only happy if it were true,” he said.
“I was surprised when I was asked to meet Mr. Gandhi. I am not a big person. But I thought it was a good opportunity, because he is a leader who brought about changes and ensured a great victory for the Congress in the Lok Sabha polls. I cancelled my shootings and met him. We discussed about politics, cinema, Makkal Iyakkam and my fans club,” he said.
Vijay said there was no discussion about getting him a position in the Congress and he had not taken any decision regarding politics.
“Mr. Rahul Gandhi is targeting the youth and I am also concentrating on mobilising the youth,” he further said.
Asked whether he had a liking for the Congress, he retorted by asking who would not like a national party working for the welfare of the people.
Recalling his fasting in support of the Sri Lankan Tamils, Vijay said he would not remain a mute spectator when Tamils were facing a problem. “In the future I would join hands with a government that will work for the welfare of the Tamils,” he said.
When asked whether the present government was not doing good things, Vijay said he had only talked about a government in the future.
“Chief Minister Kalaignar [M. Karunanidhi] is functioning with the energy of a young man,” he said. He refused to make a comparison between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Congress, saying he had very little experience to comment on these subjects.
