The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) on Sunday described as ‘mere waste’ the scheduled visit of an all-party MPs’ delegation to Sri Lanka from April 16-22 to assess the resettlement and political process.
“The scheduled visit will not help Tamils in Sri Lanka in any way. It is a mere waste,” MDMK chief Vaiko told reporters here.
He declined to comment on AIADMK supremo and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa recently pulling out her party’s lone representative from the delegation.
Ms. Jayalalithaa had expressed displeasure over the delegation’s itinerary and slammed the “anti-Tamil” approach of Sri Lanka as regards rehabilitation of internally displaced Tamils.
The MPs delegation is led by Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj.

@Christopher: Millions of people who were murdered in that war, and are still being tortured now. It is not in the interest of TN or India, but in the Tamil people. You can look at Amnesty Internation and Human Rights Watch (HRW) reports which make war crimes clear as day. It's high time that other nations like US got involved. India's human rights are nothing compared to Lanka and China especially in Tibet.
@Crana: I think you will find that TN is the most urbanised and second most industrialised state in the country, not to mention the third largest exporter in India after Gujarat and Maharashtra. If our politicians are so bad and corrupt, should we be able to produce results like this?
@Mr Rao, the Tamil people are a tightly-knit community, we do not care this or that nationality. Besides, its injustice and as Martin Luther King Jr. said "In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere
Vaiko is an extremist and his views should be disregarded. If Indian leaders listen to such people, India's international standing will be totally destroyed. TN is an absolutely corrupt and poverty stricken state where people constantly have a habit of electing crooks and ex-movie stars who appeal to their make belief world. What is sad is that TN politicians are taking the TN people for a ride. It is time for the people there to wake up and realize that Tamils in SL will soon have a far better quality of life than those in TN.
@Lalith, your comment has no sense as it will only give in to an alleged criminal. Eelam belongs to the Tamils. This issue has come due to Colonialism. It's time to separate Eelam as the Sinhalese failed. Please read "Hard Truths" book written by Hon. Lee Kuan Yew, First Singapore Prime Minister.
If you Indians care so much about the Tamil, why don't just give them
apart of your country to them. There are a lot more Tamils in India than
Sri Lanka.
I am embarrased that Indian politicians are so ethnic minded. Tamils should care about tamils in Tamil Nadu who are Indians. Tamils in Sri Lanka can come to Tamil nadu if they want to.
In the first place India has no business in getting involved with internal matters of a severing nation. India has its own human rights issues to resolve and come out clean. So far playing up to the West will be the biggest mistake India has ever made. On the other hand, Tamil Nadu, a mere state is taking advantage over the Center's geopolitical interests through blackmailing. All this show how weak is India when it comes to play in the international arena. In whichever case, behemoth China is shadowing over each move that India makes. So are other regional powers like Pakistan etc. that have the backing of smaller nations in opposition to India. It is only a matter of time that India learns and behaves to fall in line with the Non Aligned Movement that India helped forging.
Now DMK, ADMK, MDMK has pulled out. What presumption of grandeur made the congress think that they can pull their two timing trick off? We have a highly educated and political conscious population. There is absolutely no way this staged drama was going to win them any points whatsoever. If the central government keeps at its anti-Tamil stance, it will spell out a challenge for the fabric of the Indian union, as it did some 50 years ago.
