Mother of drowned girl attempts suicide

Unable to bear depression, Pavithra jumped into an irrigation well

The grieving mother of the LKG girl who drowned in a septic tank attempted suicide on Sunday afternoon.

V. Pavithra (28) jumped into an irrigation well near her residence in their native village Kattamaduvu in Chengam Panchayat Union in Tiruvannamalai district, unable to bear the depression after the death of her daughter V. Malathy (3) on Friday. Pavithra broke down when her brother Raja and her sister-in-law arrived at home for the condolence on Sunday afternoon.

When the family members were in conversation, she came out of the house and jumped into the well.

Immediately, her husband K. Venkatesan also jumped into the well and brought her out and gave the first aid at home.

With the help of 108 ambulance service, Pavithra was brought to the Government Taluk Hospital in Uthangarai.

Sources said that her condition is out of danger and she needs psychological counselling for leading normal life.

Meanwhile, R. Chandrasekar, president, and other office-bearers of Tamil Nadu Private Schools’ Association’s Confederation visited the hospital and consoled Pavithra and other family members. Christ Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Uthangarai was closed till Tuesday.

Education authorities are planning to reopen the school on Wednesday, sources here said.
