Acting swiftly after government lifted the ban on Vishwaroopam, Kamal Haasan on Monday withdrew his petition before the Madras High Court challenging the ban, a move that could see the early release of his movie.
Justice S. Rajeswaran before whom the matter came up allowed the actor and government to withdraw pleas after they expressed their desire to do so following a compromise between Kamal and Muslim organisations, which had opposed it claiming some scenes, offended their sentiments.
Clearing the way for screening the movie, the ban on it was lifted by the government on Sunday, ending the week-long standoff between Kamal and the Muslim outfits.
District Collectors revoked prohibitory orders, under which the release was banned on January 23 after the outfits came out strongly against the spy thriller.
Kamal had said he would announce the release date after consulting his technical team on the cuts, besides informing the Censor Board.

I think temporary ban on the film has caused more interest to see the movie.
so ironical that still we are not able to come of age, we call our
self a matured democracy where art is valued, respected and nourished,
we stand against oppression we oppose totalitarian and authoritative
regime in writing but all of this do not stop the fringe groups to
embark on a journey which is detrimental for our society. What kind of
secular we are if we cant tolerate the real situations depicted in
reel life? how can a small section of society takes on the the well
reputed actor? On what basis these so called custodians of society
object to something which is made for entertainment. So heartening to
read that Mr Hassan really thought of searching for a more secular
country its slap on our secular face, its farce and sham propagated to
escalate tension. All those who are vehemently opposing the movie may
not have seen it at the first place.
Excellent decision with sensibility .
it is immaterial now on whether TN govt or muslim groups are unduly restricted a Creator's freedom of speech as all the concerned parties are now amicably settled their differences.
it is the viewers who are intrested in seeing this movieare now really pleased and eager to see this movie.
this can be termed a sensible decision on the part of kamal as antoagnising the government can only hamper his film a lot .
it is better to leave the way of street fights and rather settle into a acceptable political and legal sensibility .
kudo's to tn government and chief minister for settling this issue without much fanfare as in the case of its ban .
