She targets DMK, Congress during campaign at Sankarankoil
Power shortage in Tamil Nadu will gradually disappear, beginning June, as the government is working overtime to ensure the early commissioning of upcoming projects, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said on Wednesday.
Launching her whirlwind campaign for the Sankarankoil by-election at Thiruvenkatam, Ms. Jayalalithaa said that her government had been taking sincere and sustained efforts, ever since it returned to power in May, to augment the State's power generation, which was in bad shape owing to “callous, corrupt and inefficient governance” of the previous Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam regime.
Efforts to purchase power from private companies to improve the present situation did not fructify. The Udangudi Thermal Power Project, which remained on paper as long as the DMK was in power, would be executed.
As part of the remedial measures being taken by the AIADMK government, work on North Chennai (600 MW), Vallur Units I and II (500 MW each), Unit III of Mettur Thermal Power Project (600 MW) and North Chennai Unit II (600 MW) had been expedited.
“Tamil Nadu, now grappling with power crunch owing to the DMK's five-year-long inept administration, will get 1,950 MW additional power in June following the sustained measures being taken by us. Hence, the power situation will improve gradually from June. Moreover, another 600 MW will be added by October.
“Since I'm personally supervising the progress being made in the completion of upcoming power projects and implementation of new programmes, power scarcity will soon vanish,” she said amid thunderous applause from crowds. Mano College at Sankarankoil would soon get a permanent building. Steps had been taken to augment the quantum of drinking water being supplied in the Maanur combined drinking water scheme and establish a new arts and science college at Sankarankoil. Though Vaiko's Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Vijayakant's Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam are also in the battle of ballot at Sankarankoil, she targeted only the DMK and its ally Congress.

There is a lot of talk on Kudankulam..... KKNP is a national project...Only 25-30% of it is provided to TN....
Tamilnadu will not get benefited by it and it will not solve all the problems of power scarcity... Since Jaya had said she is "Personally overlooking on the progress", let's hope the solution is found early... Instead of weighing heavily on new power projects, we should also trim loss of power during transmission, which is nearly 40% in TN...
All the comments are absolutely non sense, it is obvious that Congress
& DMK are hell bent over backwards to make JJ fail in her attempt to
solve power shortage in TN. Kudankulum alone does not solve the
current problem. Why she should help Congress on KK, when they do not
give any support for TN including Thane disaster. Also she need to
clear the fears of protesters. JJ has listed where she will get the
1950MW power. On the other hand, it will take years to get any new
projects to work. This is not something you buy it from corner shop.
She just got on board, give her some time, she will solve the issues.
I also like her plan on installing individual solar power for all
houses, commercial buildings, Hotels, Govt. buildings, street lighting
etc...
I dont know why Peoples are more concerned about KKNP!. Is there any written assurance from central Govt to TN state for the allocation of qty of power to TN from KKNP. Till now nothing. Rumour mill is working round the clock that TN will get 150M or 200MW or 350 MW or 950 MW.........Till now nothing is confirmed from either state or centre. Jaya has to accept only if TN get more than 1500 MW from KKNP. Since there is demand for Power in TN itself, why the Center is trying to take away from TN.We should not allow to take the power away from TN. Let central Govt go for agreement with TN. Once we allowed the KKNP to function then we have to accept with Centre for anything. Because this is not the thermal plant. Nuclear plant. Once started cant be stopped for years. We are going to face the problem with Radiation hence we should be more benefitted. So People has to think in that way.
Koodangulam power plant is implemented by Central government. Central
government has taken more time to take action on the so called
charities. Why we complain on Jeyalaithaa. Jeya is the only leader
addressed chennai water crises by veeranam project. It is very clear
that she has been focussed on this issue. We need to give time for her
to see the result.
The answer for above replies are that she care for the people and respect innocent people's feeling living near Kudankulam, only corrupt corporates who exploit and destroy the environment support nuclear plant.
We should appreciate the CM for her sincere efforts to alleviate the
power situation. She has the guts to say she will take care of the
situation herself. We never saw any body taking responsibility in the
previous government or did they tell us how they going to go about
solving the issue. There were shear arrogance and negligence from the
minister from the previous regime. Kudankulam will not solve the power
crisis in tamilnadu. It might add another 1000MW to our grid.I am sure
that starting the monster in not simple as cranking a car,lot of
safety factors has to be considered, see japan an advanced country they
say that the fall out of fukushima disaster shall take more than 150
yrs to recover. We should all retrospect are we ready to face such a
disaster,i challenge any of the readers if tsunami strikes the plant
we will all be left to die of radiation ,because India do not have the
technology or the know how to face nuclear disaster.People from
Delhi shall be giving lip service only
The CM will not be interested in opening the KKNPP, cos she was the one who initiated the protest to close it.
This is an absolute lie. Where will 1950 MW of power come from? Is JJ so poor in arithmetic? There are limits to mislead the people of Tamilnadu. Jayalalitha, Mamata and Mayawati are all birds of the same feather - headstrong, vengeful, corrupt and unimaginably unpredictable.
The real and workable solution lies in the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant. Instead of confronting the centre, Jayalalitha should co-operate with the centre to get better deals for Tamilnadu.
Will she or won't she?
its surprising that CM hasnt commented on the
KKNP project which is held up primarily due to the fragmented protests.
Despite of technical experts certifying that KKNP is safe, the state
government has not pushed it forward for commissioning the project. One
should remember that daily we are losing crores of rupees . Its high
time that Jayalalitha should prove herself in implementing the same.
Jayalalitha sounds more like a fortune teller, she just speaks without any basis, this claim is also like " I will get rid of power cuts if I am voted to office " look CM we don't like stories, tell us what's your basis.
Let the state government submit white paper on the power situation. The Hon'ble CM did not comment about the units under repair and she has clearly excluded the Kudankulam. The rest of india is getting private power at 25% of what TN is paying, making the products manufactured in TN expensive and losing the competition to our counterparts elsewhere.
The CM should take up the matter with the PM on war footing to improve the grid so that the power is available at reasonable cost. In other words electricity is available and only the transmission is the problem.
will the CM and PM come to the rescue of TN so that it retains its premier position for manufacturing
Did someone care to ask madame CM why not Kudankulam nuclear power plant to alleviate shortage of electricity? Or people are too scared to ask inconvenient questions! Only in India such stupidity as irrational opposition to Kudankulam NPP can be indulged on and encouraged even when the country and the state is facing acute power and fuel shortage. India deserves what it is, remain the forever developing country third world nation.
Why Jayalalitha is not interseted in opening the Nuclear power plant plant in Kundakulam? Why is she interseted in opening other power plants which are run by coal? Does she not realising that she is responsible for allowing the power to be generated from Nuclear plant? Since this project was initiated by corrupt Karuna, she does not want the nuclear plant to go in operational mode? Is she doing justice to the people of TN?
As a CM she is setting a bad precedence by undoing all the earlier policies adapted by corrupt DMK. She can wet the good and bad policies and eliminate the bad ones. It's not going to do any good thing for her. She will also land up in jail in future years for amazing huge amount of unaccounted wealth. Frankly no body likes AIDMK and DMK leadership and their ministers. People of TN should vote against DMK and AIDMK ina ll the coming elections and give a chane to learnt people who can do better Governance than thses corrupt and idiots we have in TN.
