The Madras High Court on Friday granted anticipatory bail to former Additional Director-General of Police in a matter relating to alleged land-grabbing against his family members. The court granted relief to his daughter also. But it rejected the advance bail plea of the former police officer’s wife.

Justice G.M. Akbar Ali passed the order on petitions by K. Thukkaiandi of Panaiyur, who retired as Chief Vigilance Officer, Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Chennai, his daughter, T.Yamini and wife T. Subbulakshmi.

Mr. Justice Akbar Ali said as far as Mr. Thukkaiandi and his daughter, who was only a name lender, were concerned, their custodial interrogation was not necessary. Therefore, he was of the considered view that they may be granted anticipatory bail to enable them to appear before the investigating officer to cooperate with investigation in all three cases. As far as Mrs. Subbulakshmi was concerned, she was directly involved in all the transactions. She was the only link for an alleged impersonated person. Therefore, custodial interrogation was necessary for her.
