The State government on Wednesday filed a defamation complaint against DMK president M. Karunanidhi and S. Selvam, printer, publisher and editor of ‘Murasoli,’ a Tamil daily, for making allegedly defamatory statement against Natham R. Viswanathan, Minister for Electricity and Prohibition and Excise. Filing the defamation complaint in the Principal Sessions Court here, the City Public Prosecutor M.L. Jegan said the daily published an item on the basis of Mr Karunanidhi’s statement on August 23 last year.

“Not an iota of truth”

The City Public Prosecutor said, “the news item is per se defamatory and there is not an iota of truth in it.”
