DVAC teams raid former Vellore MLA’s houses

Three teams of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) conducted simultaneous raids on the houses of former Vellore MLA C. Gnanasekaran at Sathuvachari in Vellore, Valasaravakkam in Chennai and Vellakuttai near Vaniyambadi in Vellore district on Saturday.

The raids were in pursuance to the First Information Report registered by P. Palani, Inspector of Police, DVAC, Vellore, against Mr. Gnanasekaran in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Vellore, under section 13 (2) read with 13 (1) (e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act on August 1.

The FIR stated that Mr. Gnanasekaran had amassed assets worth Rs. 1,36,28,660 disproportionate to his known sources of income from April 1, 2007 to March 31, 2008 during his tenure as MLA.

Simultaneous searches

The government acted on the basis of a report submitted by the DVAC, Vellore, after conducting a preliminary enquiry.

M. Balasubramanian, Deputy Superintendent of Police, DVAC, Vellore, who conducted the raid on the Vellore residence, which is in the name of Mr. Gnanasekaran’s wife, told The Hindu that some documents were seized.
