Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Sunday sought a commitment from the Centre over the allocation of entire power to be generated from the first 1000-megawatt unit of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project to the State.
In a fresh letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, she drew his attention to her earlier letters dated March 31 and April 25, wherein she had sought his assistance for the allocation of the entire power to the State.
Ms. Jayalalithaa said: “To my dismay, no response has so far been received from you. I am given to understand that nuclear fuel loading in the first unit of the plant is to happen within the next few days.”
Reminding the Prime Minister about her earlier request, she said: “I am sure you will appreciate the State’s justified demand in this matter and convey a positive response soon.”

Guys please stop arguing.... we all are indians... state governments and
people of respective states are behaving as if each are different
country. Communism is best suited for country like india
TN CM is perfectly justified in asking for complete output of electricity from Centre .Infact unless rivers are nationalised there wont be any solution to sharing of water .If done so it can be linked with sharing of electricity.
100% risk of a nuclear power plant is borne by power-starved TN, while
receiving a measly 5% (100MW) power share from the plant. Very fair (!)
People of TN are taking on the full risk, they are entitled to the
full reward also
If TN can ignore Kerala safety & selfishly take water from Mullaperiyar, why not share the power from KNPP ?? After all KNPP is built from Union Govt. fund which is Indian Taxpayer's kitty.
One day power shortage created headlines in North India. Consistently there is a power shortage for so many hours in different part Tamil Nadu. It is pathetic to say that metropolitan city such as Chennai don't have power.
Raja : Please understand, Irrespective of huge power shortage in TN, Still electricity getting shared to other states from NLC. We didn't ask question, Inspite of local scarcity, how we can power share to other states like you are talking about water?
@ms - facetious ? did the people from TN asked to install a Nuclear power plant?
@Raja - water is a natural resource. A power plant can anywhere in the country but can you decide the place for a water source? your argument is childish...Grow up.
If the Chief Minister's request is to tide over the present accute power shortage in Tamil Nadu, there is nothing wrong to offer the entire power generated for a period of six months. By the time couple of Power Stations in Tamil Nadu will get ready. So PM should definitely consider this request favourably with the precondition that the extra power given will be withdrawn after six months.
The govt of Tamil nadu has to combat anti-nuclear forces, which it did
in a perfect manner without suppression of people's rights. So, the
state deserves the entire 1000 mw from plant 1. We expect a positive
reply from the centre.
It costs a fortune to setup such a facility. Funds are from tax payers
from all across the country. Technology is Indo-Russian. How come TN
alone can claim the whole output? What if Karnataka claims the whole
ownership of water in Alamatti Dam??
It sounds as a facetious and unreasonable request!
